So you want to do a Triathlon???

Hell Yes! So stoked that you want to try out a triathlon. I picked a jewel for us, its the Oktoberfest Triathlon in Hayesville, NC on Lake Chatuge. Great things about this race: We can camp in the park on the Lake where the race is held and spend the entire weekend, the water is CLEAR, the race is mostly flat. We have 8 WEEKS till the race, so its time to start making a plan ASAP. I'm going to type up some training schedules from my Triathlon Book and post them here for you to use as a guide for preparing! Let;s do this! It's been over a year since I have done a race, so it's going to be tough for me too! I'm racing the International distance mainly because it was the first triathlon I ever did, and I've been wanting to try it again. The swim is the hardest part for that race. I recommend you starting with the Sprint Distance, but if you think you can swim like a champ, pedal your heart out, and run like the wind ~~~~ go for the International! ;P

Here's the Race Stats:

Sprint Distance

The Swim is .25 miles, as shown here in RED.

The Bike
is 9 miles, and pictured below in BLUE, along with the elevation at the bottom of the map.

The Run is 2 m
iles, in BLUE along the Dam on the top map.

International Distance

The Swim in 8/10 of a mile. It goes around the island as pictured.

The Bike is 16 miles.

The Run is 4 miles along the dam.

Things to Know:
1. You need a bike
2. You need swimming goggles
3. You need running shoes
4. You need to develop a regular workout schedule to prepare for the race NOW :D
5. The first time is a blast and your going to have a great time and feel great about yourself
6. I'm here to give you advice and encouragement! :)
7. I will organize a mock triathlon before the race, so we can get practice putting all three sports together.

This is the website for the Race Organizer, info and where I've gotten these maps from.

Atlanta - Decatur Saturday AM Route

First longer road ride in awhile. Got lucky on a lot of green lights... well except for the train crossing (detour~), and a non-stop ride around the round-a-bout ;-) So, that was nice. Legs felt good, The first half of the ride they were feeling tight, but loosened up by Avondale Estates.

Today is Saturday and my car was fucking stolen last Thursday, very, very frustrating!!!!! :*( Especially since we really loved each other, a lot.. But while I was riding, i thought to myself; well, atleast I still have my bikes!!! I have a new job starting June 1st, so next week is going to be my last harrah of unemployment; ending with my BDAY CELEBRATION!! OH Joy; 2 8 !

The Wailers at Wild Bills

It's about time to get back to a normal workout schedule. Hopefully will be getting the damn house rented this weekend. That will help. I am definetly going to get-on that Wednesday group ride and need to make Saturday/Sunday a long ride and a swim every weekend.

It's Been Awhile ~*~

Well 2010 continues to be full of firsts for me... #1 First; I was recently laid off.. But now I have much less stress and WAY more time! :D It was a bruise to the ego, but I'm slowly getting back into the mode of things. Some positive firsts this year have been... Biking to a concert, dancing in ankle deep warm water at a concert :)) ( VEGAS ) and well hopefully some autocross and of course a triathlon finish or two! ;P

I went to SOPE Creek with Caldwell this week. I did a lot better than I thought I would. Last time I rode the trail was after a work day and that uphill killed me! But this time, I was able to push through and ride the entire length of the trail. Definitely doesn't hurt having a riding buddy to keep you motivated! :) And back was 110 times EASIER than out!

Finally got a chance to ride Critical Mass again in April, it was so much FUN! I can't find my camera, but I took a lot a great pics! :)

There was this one dude who had two bike frames one on top of the other, pedaling away, mtn bike tires and all. I even saw him hop a curb! LOL!

Got my Tattoo all finished, it's pretty sexy! I can't wait to race some triathlons and stretch my wings while I race! :) It's time to get my workout schedule back on track! I'm going to do a brick, mtn bike/swim tomorrow at the Lake, ..it's be aaaawhile.

Speaking of racing, it's time to try and make some race goals! Well, assuming that I will have employment sooner rather than later and I can afford to fork out $60 for a race!!

International Distance Triathlon - September 26th
~ Getting some newbies to the sport to come out and participate in the Sprint Distance race the same day, SOO Looking forward to Denise, Katherine, Amanda, Lauren all trying out a race! Lots of time to prepare!

Checked out the Beltline trail near Inman Park the other night with Bobby and his Lady, looks pretty rad! I unfortunately only had my roadie, so I was trying to navigate all the rocks and humps on my stiff ass road, but I still managed to make it a little ways, much more to explore on my MTN BIKE!!!

Here's me hanging with Sydney, my goddaughter. She's the cutest thing ever! :) I've been running with my cousin to help get her back into shape after the baby, Opps, I missed the 5K, damn Motivation!!! Where art thou?

This new Gorillaz album "Plastic Beach" kicks ass my friends, LOVE'n IT!

PS Can't wait for my Bday this YEAR! 20 days..

Till next time, ciao

This moment in time

I rode 20 miles. Took me about 1:43. It WAS AWESOME! I haven't ridden my road bike since, ummmmmmm, a minute, since Stone Mtn with Becca, I think that was like Oct. Wow.The weather in ATL has been in the 20ssss = VERYYY cold! But THIS week it's been 50s, so hell yes, I went for a ride after work today. And it felt awesome. I rode to Great Aunt Mary's house, but no answer, so I rode home, into the sunset. And I continued on, down the path to give some props to MLK JR because he is an amazing personality, leader, and revolutionist. Yup, AMAZING MAN.

Gymbo Jog

3.0 miles
35 minutes
168 AVG
198 MAX

3 intervals

Felt good, calves a little sore, knee feels ok, Amazing how a little run can make the cold outside that much more bearable!

Now for lunch, Asian Seasme Chicken salad, and water, yum!

Race Schedule 2010

Ok, Finally decided on some races. I was keen on trying the Snake Creek TT series, but I think that's a little too ambitious and I'm just going to have to wait until next year. I'm going for the Tundra TT in Feb to gauge my fitness (hopefully this year I can actually find the race course), Run the 10K leading up to the Half Marathon.

My goal is to get some long distance running in early so I can easily sprint the 3.5 mile and 5 mile distances for the duathlons and Xterra. I'm going to stay true to the dirt this Spring. The Dirty Spokes series is going to lead threw the Fort Yargo Xterra Tri and I should be able to finish strong at Chicopee Woods in the beginning of summer. Maybe I'll throw-in the Fort Yargo 6 hour enduro in May if Denise ant Timmy r down for a group effort.

Xterra is so early in all the mtn biking, I'm not sure if I can make it an A race with the way my schedule is playing out. If not, then my Bday for the Fort Yargo Duathlon, will have to be the kicker! That's just wrong I want to kick my ass on my bday, right?!! hehehe, just more to be merry about when I'm drinking some fine brews afterwards!

Total Race Mtn Bike: 58 miles - 50%
Total Race Trail Run: 33 miles - 28%
Total Race Road Run: 19 miles - 15%
Total Race Road Bike: 9.5 - 8%

Looks like I will be dedicating at least half my efforts to mtn biking this season. Sweet. This should be interesting.
